Ninguno Usually Used in Singular Form
From the mailbox, a question about the example of
No quiero ningún libro.
I don't want any books.
from the lesson on indefinite adjectives:
In the 1st line, should "libro" be plural to agree with the translation "books" on the 2nd line?
This is one of those cases where the numbers don't really match up in Spanish and English. Probably what's best to remember here is that ninguno (as well as the feminine form, ninguna) is almost always used in the singular form. But ninguno (or the noun it refers to when ninguno is used as an adjective) can often be translated to English as either singular or plural without any change in meaning.
Here's a sentence as an example: Él tiene lo que ninguna mujer puede resistir. In English, either "He has what no woman can resist" and "He has what no women can resist" mean essentially the same thing. But in Spanish, the singular form would almost always be used. Similarly, a sentence such as "No he tenido ningún problema" could be translated as either "I haven't had any problem" or "I haven't had any problems," with any difference in meaning being very slight. But "ningunos problemas" is hardly ever used.
It wouldn't be a grammatical crime to use the plural in Spanish sentence like those two, and indeed you may sometimes hear similar constructions. But as a general rule, the main time ningunos or ningunas is used is when referring to nouns that are grammatically plural although singular in meaning:
No veo ningunas tijeras. I don't see any scissors. No necesito ningunas gafas. I don't need any glasses. No tengo ningunas ganas de estudiar. I don't have any desire to study. And by the way, there's a reason many of the sentences about use both no and ninguno: Double negatives are common in Spanish. In fact, they're required in many cases where they'd be wrong in English.

"I Tried it!": VitaTops Deep Chocolate
I bought them originally as a snack, but I wondered if these little babies would be sufficient Breakfast food. Well yesterday I had one breakfast with bananas and fat free milk glass. I had a meeting with a late lunch in respect of the use of State-of-the-art-3 p.m.! VitaTop Central Bank is not a problem for me. (Unable to make a toast? I think not!)
The best is the taste. I have said many things unto them, that does not take care of many "diet" versions of the food. I have a fairly small proportion of the real thing in most cases. But I promise, never know "light" or "diet" foods are eating when you eat Deep chocolate VitaTop. They are versatile, yummy taste and decadant structure is. And when they are heated ... chocolate causes all gooey such as fresh-baked in a cookie.
Am I the last diet-miracle-food VitaTops is located in a deep chocolate flavor to know? I have been missing out! Someone who wants to ... not the needs of daily chocolate fix, as this incorrect rocks!
You can find them on many of the grocers or would like to purchase from the manufacturer.

Ser and Estar Used in Different Ways
From the mailbox (links added):
Could you possibly give me some idea about where and how to go about learning the verbs ser and estar? I believe that this is the reason I did not pass my class. I am really having a problem with the verb "to be." I got discouraged and stopped going to class and I received a F for a final grade but I am attempting to take the course again for spring 2011. I think that I should mention also that I am returning to school after some time (20 years). I have always wanted to learn Spanish and it really does seems like a foreign language to me :). I also read your article on these verbs and I am still confused.
Welcome to the club! You aren't the first Spanish student to be confused about ser and estar, and you won't be the last. But rest assured that as you learn the language, and especially once you can start thinking in Spanish, the differences between the two verbs will become intuitive.
I decided to answer your question here in the blog because I hope that others learning Spanish can share their insights. What works for me in understanding the two verbs may not work for you — but what works for someone else might.
The first thing I would suggest is to try to not think of ser and estar as translations for "to be" — instead, try to think about what they mean and/or how they function in a sentence.
That said, ser generally is used indicate the essence, the inherent nature of what someone or something is. It's used to identify a thing or person, to describe its/his/her characteristics, to classify persons or things. Estar, on the other hand, can be thought of as more of an "action" verb, and it is used when talking about the conditions of things or persons rather than their characteristics. It is not used in classifying people or things, nor in defining.
One way of seeing the difference between the two verbs is to look at the meaning of two simple questions that differ only in which verb is used:
¡Cómo es tu madre? (What is your mother like?) In this question using a conjugated form of ser, the speaker is asking about your mother's characteristics — what kind of person she is, perhaps classifying information such as her age or occupation. The questioner isn't trying to find out information about her current condition, but rather who she is.¡Cómo está tu madre? (How is your mother?) In this case, by using a conjugated form of estar, the speaker hopes to find out something about her condition, not what kind of person she is. For example, if your mother's health has been an issue, the questioner might want to know about that — and answers could be "está sana" (she's healthy) or "está enferma" (she's sick). Or perhaps she has been out of work, and if she now has job, "está empleada" (she's employed) would be an appropriate way of referring to her employment condition.See how this pattern is followed in some other simple sentences:
Soy enojada. (I am an angry person. It's the way I am. It's a characteristic of me.) Estoy enojada. (I'm angry. That's my current condition.)Soy gordo. (I am a fat person. Fat is what kind of person I am. Fatness is one of my characteristics.) Estoy gordo. (My current condition is being fat.)Soy aburrida. (I am boring. That's what kind of person I am.) Estoy aburrida. (I am bored. That's my current condition.)Soy profesor de matemáticas. (I am a math teacher. That's part of what I am, it's part of what defines and classifies me.) Estoy de profesor de matemáticas. (I teach mathematics. A math teacher isn't necessarily what I am, but teaching math is something I'm doing.)This brief answer can't get into all the differences between ser and estar, and I've barely gotten into the different ways they are used in sentences. But I hope this shows you a bit about how Spanish speakers have a different understanding of the two verbs, and how the choice of verb affects how they interpret a sentence.

New weight Watchers review begins today!
The tools are similar to the previous version, but I noticed as soon as the biggest change is that you calculate the calories will no longer be incorporated into the PointsPlus-calculator. (Points to a previous version to rely on counting of calories and fat, fiber, and now you can calculate the fat, fiber, protein, and carbohydrates.) Points-based in the same way as the original plan, you can allow certain per day as the "target", Calculator and tracker allows you to check your goal you how close.
As someone who has been calculated on the calories in the last 10 years, the better part of this is a big change! Find yourself almost enter calories "automatic pilot" incorporated into the calculator, which is part of the PointsTracker and then I understand ... I do not have to do it!
These first two days of the date on which they have been good in its entirety. I am with the hunger, the battle of the Pelennor fields, in particular, late night snack, you like to stay at the hotel ... and nights! I think a little more planning (and better meal-scheduling) will take care of that issue.
I will be posting it to the number of days to go!
Note: Weight Watchers has given me a free access to the online program, and other tools for me to blog about my experiences.

The collection sits archived in its plastic case on my bedroom floor, untouched.
But, tomorrow is another day and I'm ready to start working hard again. Good thing I checked out this great article from exercise Guide Paige. These tips will get you back on track quicker than you can say, "Who still actually has Richard Simmons VHS tapes?". (Answer? Moi.)
